Kamalapura (Kannada: ಕಮಲಾಪುರ, sometimes written Kamalapuram) is a panchayat town in Gulbarga district in Karnataka 10miles from Basavakalyan " The Birth place of Indian Democracy where the 12th century Philosopher Basaveshwara created the model Parliament called " Anubhava Mantap" with the view that " Parliament should reflect the society". He incorporated people from all sections of the society to create this Model Parliament. It is located near the town of Mahagaon. It is now mainly an agricultural town. The main agricultural products of this village are banana and sugar cane, especially famous for red bananas producing and selling; Kamalapura people have a monopoly in producing and selling these bananas.

Politics

Kamalapur was the first place in Karnataka to hold successful election hustings during the assembly election in Karnataka. It was the first pilot project that worked well. On 15 May 2008 it was held under the leadership of The Mayor of London Borough of Lambeth Cllr Dr Neeraj Patil and was presided by Late Sri Shanker Shetty Patil and viewed on television by people throughout the state. The participants included Mr B Revu Nayak BJP, Mrs Chandrika Parameshwar Korwar INC, Mr Gurunath JD(S) and Mr Maruti Manpade CPI(M). Mr Maruti Manpade was topped as the best speaker but however Mr Revu Nayak won the elections held on 25 May 2008 and became the Animal Husbandary Minister of Karnataka.
